Asian CEOs confident about prospects: Survey
The confidence of Asian CEOs continues to grow in strength, unlike that of business leaders elsewhere, according to a survey that will be presented at an IPS event on 9 April by PricewaterhouseCoopers (PWC) Singapore. For the fourth time in as many years, PWC will be presenting to IPS Corporate Associates the findings from the 11th Annual Global CEO Survey.

"Globalization is not a new phenomenon"
Mr Nayan Chanda, editor of YaleGlobal Online Magazine, gave the audience at the IPS Corporate Associates Appreciation Lunch a sneak preview of his latest book on the history of globalisation and shared several insights into a centuries-old phenomenon.

Nobel Laureate discusses evolution of societies
Successful societies have open competition in politics and economics, while others restrict political and economic access only to elites, said economist Douglass North, who presented his thesis at a recent IPS event. He also spoke about the conditions necessary for transition from one to the other.

Sovereign Wealth Funds have ethical responsibilities
Sovereign wealth funds have two ethical responsibilities: ensuring good returns so future generations of citizens can benefit, and respecting the fundamental rights of those who are affected by companies the funds invest in. This is the view of Mr Martin Skancke, Director General of Norway's Ministry of Finance, who spoke at an IPS Roundtable.

"Singapore can be microfinance centre" - NGO
Singapore could be the Asian hub for microfinance, said an official from French NGO PlaNet Finance Indonesia. Singapore banks could have first mover advantage if they seize the opportunities in the region, added Mr Cyrille Parant. PlaNet Finance is dedicated towards developing microfinancing to fight poverty.

Dean Kishore Mahbubani kicks off 2008 CA programme
In the first IPS Corporate Associates event for 2008, Professor Kishore Mahbubani, Dean of the Lee Kuan Yew School of Public Policy, discussed his thesis on the rise of Asia which he detailed in his latest book "The New Asian Hemisphere: The Irresistable Shift of Global Power to the East".
