Singaporeans in London on Being Singaporean
What does being a Singapore citizen mean in a globalising world? Are identity and community still confined to the geographic location of the city-state? Dr Elaine Ho, Visiting Fellow at the Department of Geography, National University of Singapore, discussed this at a recent seminar in the light of her study on Singaporeans in London. The event was part of a series of talks at IPS on Migration and Citizenship.

Social Enterprise: Achieving that Double Bottom-line
While businesses seek to maximise profits, non-profit organizations live by the 'do good' bottom line. The notion of Social Enterprises (SE) marries the two objectives by using business as a means to help people. Singapore Perspectives 2007: A New Singapore was given a high rating in a capsule review recently in ST. The paper said the proceedings of the Perspectives 2007 conference is a "must-read for anyone who wants to pick the brains of Singapore’s top independent thinkers".

Venture Philanthropy Workshop Series
IPS in May held its second workshop on Venture Philanthropy, or highly engaged giving where the donor does not just contribute money but also become more actively involved in the charity. Participants called for more vibrant 'business models' in social enterprises, groups that provide goods and services for a social purpose. A third workshop will be held soon. An online forum has also been launched on venture philanthropy.
