Pan-United Corporation Ltd donates $200,000 to the IPS
Pan-United Corporation Limited (PUC), the logistics and infrastructure multinational and a IPS Corporate Associate, has given IPS $200,000 as a gift. At the PUC 50th Anniversary Dinner where IPS Patron, Senior Minister Goh Chok Tong was the Guest-of-Honour, Mr Ch'ng Jit Koon, Chairman of PUC presented the cheque to IPS Director, Ambassador Ong Keng Yong. We extend a warm thank you to PUC.

Deputy Director Arun Mahizhnan on sabbatical
Arun Mahizhnan, Deputy Director of IPS, has left Singapore for a six-month long sabbatical at the London School of Economics. He will be embarking on new research on E-Governance with a focus on its social and political impact. In addition, he will be working on two books he is co-editing with Tan Tarn How, IPS Senior Research Fellow. These books examine the impact of the Internet on Singapore's General Elections in 2006 and the challenges and limitations of free speech on the internet respectively. |

Roundtable on Developments in Future Studies
How Future Studies can be used to tackle the impact of climate change and energy supply pressures will be the subject of an IPS roundtable discussion on 15 October 2008. Professor Sirkka Heinonen of the Finland Futures Research Centre will talk about her work in developing innovative ways for combating climate change and cultivating energy-efficient communities, and discuss the latest developments in the way Future Studies are conducted.

Calls were made for less regulation of the Internet at a forum organized by IPS and the National University of Singapore Law Faculty. The event was held to gather feedback from the public on the recently published consultation paper by the Advisory Council on the Impact of New Media on Society (AIMS) .

Family Research Network launched
A forum for researchers, policy makers and social workers to discuss issues on the family has been launched by the Ministry of Community Development, Youth and Sports with the help of IPS. Called the Family Research Network, it was announced together with a fund for independent research on the family in Singapore.

IPS launches book on religious diversity
A new book with the latest research on "Religious Diversity in Singapore" has been released. The seminal publication has nearly 30 essays on issues raised by Singapore's multi-religious society such as religion in schools, in the media, in the social services, and among the youth. A forum was held to mark the launch.
